One theme we have seen so far at this years Paris Motor Show, is automakers showing off vehicles which don't seem to flow with past company history. Ferrari just added a vehicle to the growing list. Have a look at the Ferrari Calfornia fitted with the HELE System. HELE stands for High Emotion Low Emissions and is a system designed to reduce C02 emissions without taking away from the joy of driving a Ferrari.

The HELE System works by utilizing a variety of technical measures including a start/stop function that can restart the car in 230 milliseconds, intelligent engine fan and fuel pump control, electronically controlled variable displacement air-conditioning technology and adaptive gear shifts. The result is a 23 percent reduction in C02 emissions.

We joke about automakers moving away from their traditional vehicles, but it's these types of cars that allow them to continue to build the ones we love. There probably would be no Porsche GT2 RS without the Cayenne, for example. The Ferrari California fitted with the HELE System shows that the purveyor of the Prancing Horse understands the world is constantly changing – and Ferrari is doing its best to continue to build the cars it's known for while staying in tune with the current climate of the world.

There will always be someone who wants to stand out even among the elites. If you find your Ferrari California to 'mediocre' than the folks over at Anderson Germany may help you further upgrade your flashy ride.Starting with Ferrari California's 4.3-liter V8 which gets a 55-horsepower jump from 460HP to 515HP thanks to a recalibrated ECU and new valve controlled stainless steel exhaust system, which can be set to three different sound modes via remote control.

The package also includes electronically adjustable dampers that can lower the ride height by 35 mm or raise it by 40 mm, and a new set of light-weight alloy wheels with the outer rim painted in the color of the car, shod in 255/30 R21 tires up front and 315/22 R22 tires at the rear.

The exterior is treated to a carbon fiber galore. Aside from the carbon film on the alloy wheel spokes, Anderson Germany offers a bodykit made up of a carbon fiber-finished front spoiler lip, side skirts, rear diffusor, rear mud guard, side air-vents and boot lid spoiler. A dark tint on the panes and rear lights round off the exterior upgrades.

Moving inside, among the many options offered by the tuner is a -you guessed it- carbon fiber trim package for the air vents, radio fascia, center console(s), door handles, rocker switches and steering wheel.

REVIEW: Driven: 2010 Ferrari California

2010 Ferrari California
REVIEW: Driven: 2010 Ferrari California

Through a coincidence in time or just luck, I was lucky enough
California is full of firsts: the first-ever front-mounted V-8-engined Ferrari, this is the first use of direct injection in the Ferrari, and Ferrari's first dual-clutch automated manual transmission. This was also the first Ferrari built on modular architecture, and the first built on the new production line really scary in modernity. I can tour the facility last month, and the California production line is clean, quiet, and freakishly automatic. On the one hand, computerized, mass production just makes California somehow, seem less special; on the other hand, this ensures the highest quality level. I think the tradeoff is worth it, especially for the Ferrari which is inherently less special than the others.

Screeeetch - less special? I mean no insult by that of California. That's the most expensive in the Ferrari offers a stable, but that's only part of the reason why. Another reason is that I equate "special" with "crazy." I, automotive certified lunatic, worship F430 to madness. I like the way crackles and barks and screams. I love how the little children fear and adults with an acoustic attack; how accelerated and shift with such violence that makes the hysterical passenger. I like how the residents feel under attack by every pebble on the road after their appeal with the sights and smells of the world's best material.

Some, however, might find F430 slightly more. For these people, Ferrari makes California. California is softer, lighter, less crazy Ferrari. Ergo, it is less specific for crazy people like me, but no less specialized in the real world. A grand tourer in the traditional sense of the word, Ferrari's hard-top convertible soft and luxurious. The level of his voice and a quiet ride by Ferrari standards, and the cabin is elegant and luxurious.
